George M. Newcombe is a Partner in the Firm's Litigation Department and Head of the Palo Alto office. Mr. Newcombe's practice is focused on servicing the litigation needs of companies in Silicon Valley, including patent and other intellectual property litigation, commercial arbitration, securities litigation, among other matters. Representations have included Intel Corporation, Oracle Corporation (Special Litigation Committee), Levi Strauss & Co. (Audit Committee); JDS Uniphase, Agilent Technologies, Inc., NEC Corporation, Olympus Corporation, Cisco Systems, Inc., and Avistar Communications.
Mr. Newcombe has been a partner at the Firm since 1983. He received his B.S. magna cum laude in Chemical Engineering in 1969 from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1975, where he was a James Kent Scholar and a founding editor of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.
Mr. Newcombe is a member of the American Law Institute, the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, The Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the American Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the Federal Bar Council and the Defense Research Institute. He is a Director the Legal Aid Society – Employment Law Center, a Director of the American Ditchley Foundation, a member of the Board of Visitors of Columbia Law School and a member of the Board of Overseers of the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is an Associate Member the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is admitted to practice in California, New York, New Jersey, numerous federal district courts and appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Newcombe is Co-Chair of the PLI Annual Conference on How to Conduct Markman Hearings and he is a frequent lecturer in patent law and litigation issues.
