George Wang is a Partner in the Firm’s Litigation Department. He specializes in securities litigation (including class actions and derivative actions), change-of-control litigation and insurance/reinsurance litigation.
Mr. Wang regularly represents issuers, directors and officers, and financial institutions in securities class actions, shareholder derivative actions and ERISA class actions. His recent securities representations have included American Electric Power, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley. Mr. Wang has also handled litigation relating to hostile takeovers, such as Pfizer/Warner-Lambert and Weyerhauser/Willamette, and other change-of-control transactions, including AXA/AXA Financial, and AEP/Central & South West Corp.
Mr. Wang is also active in the Firm’s insurance/reinsurance practice. His recent insurance/reinsurance representations have included Equitas, Underwriters at Lloyd’s, and Travelers.
Mr. Wang also advises clients on U.S. economic sanctions issues.
Mr. Wang joined Simpson Thacher in 1999 and became a partner in 2007. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Wang served as a law clerk to the Hon. Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Wang received his A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University in 1995 and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1998, where he was a Primary Articles Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
