Peter Martelli is a Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in the Firm’s Corporate Department.  He specializes in representing corporations, private equity firms and financial advisors in mergers and acquisitions transactions.  Selected transactions on which Mr. Martelli has worked include the representation of:

  • Blackstone in its acquisition of Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Busch Entertainment theme parks;
  • Ameriprise Financial in its acquisition of the long-term asset management business of Columbia Management from Bank of America;
  • Sirius XM Radio in connection with the investment in it by Liberty Media and the related refinancing transactions;
  • Northwest Airlines Corporation in its merger with Delta Airlines; 
  • Blackstone and Extended Stay Hotels in the sale of Extended Stay Hotels to The Lightstone Group;
  • Blackstone in its acquisition of Alliant Insurance;
  • Blackstone in its investment in Stiefel Laboratories;
  • Sirius Satellite Radio in connection with its merger of equals with XM Satellite Radio; 
  • Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and Providence Equity Partners in their acquisition of Education Management Corporation;
  • LPL Holdings in its sale to TPG and Hellman & Friedman;
  • WellPoint in its merger with Anthem; and
  • A consortium led by Thomas H. Lee Partners, Edgar Bronfman, Jr., Bain Capital and Providence Equity Partners in its acquisition of Time Warner’s Warner Music Group.

Mr. Martelli has been with Simpson Thacher since his graduation from New York University School of Law in 2000.  He received his B.S. from Cornell University in 1997.
