Eleanor Fox was elected the Firm's first woman partner in 1970. Today, the partnership includes 28 women partners: 14 in Corporate, 8 in Litigation, 2 in Personal Planning, 2 in Tax, 1 in Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits, and 1 in Exempt Organizations. Two women partners are department chairs and one is a practice group head within the Corporate Department. Fifty percent of the attorneys elected to partner in 2007 were women.
Our women partners are well-known legal experts who serve on national, state and local bar committees and lecture at groups such as The Practising Law Institute and The American Law Institute. In 2006, four of our women partners were ranked in the Chambers & Partners survey of leading U.S. attorneys. Sarah Cogan was acknowledged by Vault as one of the top women leaders in the law in their recently published book "The Vault View from the Top: Q&A with Women Leaders." Five of our women partners received an “AV” ranking in Martindale-Hubbell. Our women partners are honored frequently by bar and pro bono organizations, including Victoria Bjorklund, head of the Exempt Organizations Group, who was the ABA Tax Section's “Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year” and litigation partner Mary Kay Vyskocil, who was recently appointed by the presidents of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Federal Bar Council to the Joint Committee on Judicial Conduct.
Our female partners are prominent within the Firm, as well. Women partners currently serve on 14 of the 18 firm committees, including Business Development, Compensation, Compliance, Finance, Investment and Technology, and serve as chair or co-chair of the Associates, Diversity, New Partners, Personnel, Recruiting and Women's Committees.
Overall, our women attorneys come from more than 70 colleges, 50 law schools and 15 countries, and speak more than 20 languages. They are prominent in national, civic and community groups, and have served as David Rockefeller Fellows, directors of prominent non-profit organizations and class parents at local schools. A female associate was named a 2006 Southern California Super Lawyer "Rising Star" and other women attorneys have been honored by organizations such as the Legal Aid Society and InMotion. Our retired partners and other alumni include a former Senior Treasury Department official, a Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs, the President of USA Basketball and former founding President of the WNBA, a prominent New York University Law School professor and the General Counsel of the FBI.
