Balancing professional and personal life at a top New York law firm is often challenging, and the Firm is committed to supporting all of its attorneys in this respect. The Firm values attorneys for their talent and the results they obtain for our clients, and does not promote a culture of "busy work" or "face time" for any of its professionals. All attorneys are issued Blackberry® portable e-mail devices and RSA® security tokens to facilitate working from home, and loaner laptop computers and on-call computer help services are available from the Firm's Information Technology group. All Firm attorneys receive four weeks of vacation a year.

The Firm offers new parents 18 weeks of paid primary caregiver leave or four weeks of paid secondary caregiver leave for births or adoptions. Since January 1, 2005, over 100 associates have taken primary or secondary caregiver leaves. The Firm offers "flex-time" at 60% to 80% of the workweek through the Flexible Work Arrangements Policy. Several of the Firm's partners have worked "flex-time" hours at some point in their careers. At present, 31 attorneys – including senior counsel/counsel – work "flex-time" hours. In addition the Firm's Flexible Work Arrangements policy provides for an extended menu of flexible work options including telecommuting, work sharing arrangements, and an unpaid leave of absence for attorneys wishing to devote an extended period of time to family responsibilities. The Firm pays for flex-time associates' membership in Flex Time Lawyers LLC, a non-profit organization which hosts networking events at Manhattan law firms. The Firm offers access to back-up care options for all attorneys in its U.S. offices at child care centers or with at-home child care providers through Bright Horizons. The New York office maintains a lactation room for new mothers to facilitate their transition back to work.
