The Los Angeles office reflects the strength and diversity of Simpson Thacher's practice. Presently staffed with nearly 30 lawyers, this growing office advises on mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions and handles commercial, securities and insurance litigation in federal and state courts.

Recent corporate engagements include: a $900 million recapitalization of Cosmos Bank, Taiwan by affiliates of S.A.C. Private Capital Group; the $1.3 billion acquisition of Performance Food Group by VISTAR Corporation; the $2.2 billion acquisition of Pinnacle Foods Group Inc. by affiliates of Blackstone Capital Partners; representation of CBS Corporation in its sale of Paramount Parks; an equity offering by Oaktree Capital Management and its affiliates; and initial public offerings and other securities offerings, including the IPO's of DreamWorks Animation and Google, Inc.

The litigation matters in Los Angeles involve a wide variety of subject areas such as antitrust, banking, energy, insurance, intellectual property, products liability, and securities. Recent litigation engagements include litigation in Colorado against the world’s largest gold producer arising out of a mining accident in northern Peru; False Claims Act proceedings in Louisiana related to Hurricane Katrina and involving the National Flood Insurance Program; a case brought by the Trustees on the Screen Actors Guild pension plans in federal court in Los Angeles concerning two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots; and representation of the founder of the Hard Rock Café in a dispute concerning intellectual property rights arising out of the sale of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
