Foundation, Public Charity and International Work and Advice to Donors

Simpson Thacher counsels many private, family and corporate foundations and prominent public charities.  The Firm's Exempt Organization attorneys also advise donors to those organizations.  We draft gift agreements for both organizations and for individual donors.

We increasingly work on international philanthropic matters.  The Firm has participated in matters involving the Open Society Institute, the Central European University and other projects funded by George Soros, as well as matters for “American Friends of” organizations supporting the Fondation de France, the Louvre, and The Royal Shakespeare Company among others.

The Firm also advises many international organizations.  The Firm has handled matters involving Concern Worldwide US, Institute of International Education, LEAD International, and NetAid in connection with cross-border operations.

Simpson Thacher also has participated in matters involving the Robin Hood Foundation and to Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres, which was awarded the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize.
