Patent Litigation
The Intellectual Property Group handles complex patent infringement litigation in a wide variety of fields, including pharmaceutical products, biotechnology, semiconductor design and fabrication, networking and communications devices, and computer software. The group's attorneys are fluent in science and technology and work effectively with experts and witnesses to communicate complex technical issues in pleadings and at trial. They also work seamlessly with other groups in the Firm, such as antitrust and bankruptcy, when combined expertise is required.
Among its notable engagements, the group has represented Daiichi Sankyo (formerly Daiichi Pharmaceutical) in a number of cases (and two lengthy trials) defending its patents against generic challengers, including patents covering the blockbuster antibiotic Levaquin® and the Benicar® family of products, and has advised with respect to similar challenges throughout Europe. The group has regularly represented Intel in various matters concerning semiconductor design and manufacturing, including cases involving Intel’s most critical and cutting-edge technology. For networking pioneer 3Com, we won a $45.3 million damages award and a finding of willful infringement from a San Francisco jury, leading to a payment to our client substantially larger than the jury award. The group has also handled major patent litigations for Cisco, SiRF (concerning GPS technology), Verizon Communications, Verizon Wireless, NEC, Nobel Biocare (formerly Nobelpharma), UMC, and other technology leaders.
We have substantial experience in most of the significant venues for patent litigation, including the District of Delaware, the Eastern District of Texas, the District of New Jersey, and the Northern and Central Districts of California.
